If you do not charge a fee, you may purchase a recreational vessel license for a fee of $2,001.50 per 12 month period. A recreational license is only required if the passengers on the not-for-hire boat want to saltwater fish without being individually licensed.
If you charge a fee, you can purchase either a Charter Captain or Charter Boat fishing license; and there are different categories depending on the number of passengers aboard.
What if I own multiple boats?
A boat fishing license is issued to an individual and transferable to any commercially registered boat operated by the individual; but the license can only be used for one boat at a time. The Coast Guard requires a Captain's License for all operators of for-hire boats.
