|Heavy truck registrations expire December 31 (Published 11-14-2018)
|All heavy truck registrations expire December 31. Renew online now and the new registration and decal will be mailed within seven business days to ensure delivery well before the December 31 expiration date. Heavy truck renewal notices are mailed mid-November, and even if the renewal notice is not received the new decal must be affixed to license plates by January 1. Registrations may be renewed for one or two years, expiration 2019 or 2020, using a debit or credit card at taxcollector.com.
"Save time when you renew online or by mail," said Tax Collector Ken Burton Jr. "If you choose to come in to one of our offices, come now and avoid longer wait times due to holiday closings and considerable year-end traffic."
Most trucks are eligible for a two-year registration; however, there are exceptions. Trucks with an empty weight of 8,000 lbs. or more can register for only one year at a time.
Some trucks are not eligible for online renewal; for example, trucks with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 26,001 lbs. or more must show higher liability insurance coverage. Additionally, trucks with a GVW of 55,000 lbs. or more must show proof of payment of Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (IRS Form 2290). View our Heavy Truck FAQ for complete details.
