Bradenton FL — Sharmaine Bridges was selected as the Manatee County Tax Collector's 2019 Lillie Robinson Humanitarian Award recipient. Named for the former employee who donated thousands of hours of service before her untimely death in 2012, "The Lillie Award" recognizes the employee who exemplifies the Tax Collector's Community and Social Responsibility Core Value.
"For the first time, there were only two nominations; and they were for the same person," said Tax Collector Ken Burton Jr., in making the announcement at the Columbus Day in-service workday event at Legacy Hotel in Bradenton. "Even though it was a very easy decision for the Senior Team, Sharmaine is an outstanding employee in every regard. In addition to her many activities, she represented the office in the Manatee Chamber's prestigious Leadership Manatee program this year and is also team leader when we take part in employee job fairs. It is said when you want something done, ask a busy person. That is Sharmaine. I could not be more proud, and I can't help but think Lillie is watching and beaming with pride right now."
"This past year Sharmaine logged 110 community service hours, which is the third highest in our organization," said one nominator. "She is always on the lookout for how she can help others and put their interests before her own, inside and outside of work. She is involved in church activities and gives up her free time to make sure she stays involved. By working with her, I get to see Sharmaine deal with every question and challenge with an upbeat attitude and a focus on getting it done, making sure the person asking truly understands the answer or outcome. In the last year, Sharmaine has taken on New Hire training, and has done an amazing job in making sure that that the training is clear and understandable to all New Hires moving forward with their careers here at the Tax Collector's Office. Because of her high number of hours of community service and schedule outside of work, her outstanding attitude, and her concern for others around her, I know community and social responsibility is a priority to Sharmaine which is why I want to nominate her for this award."
The other wrote, "Sharmaine exemplifies all of our core values on a daily basis. She is very engaged in the community with a total of 110 community service hours, placing her in third place for the highest number of hours in the whole office. She serves as a Sunday school teacher at her church and assists in various church events/activities throughout the year. Sharmaine is such a kind soul, she is always looking for ways to help others. Anytime I ask a question she is very patient and kind. I can tell that every time she helps me it is very genuine and that she truly cares. I believe Sharmaine will be a great recipient for the Lillie Robinson Humanitarian Award, she deserves it!"
The award carries with it a certificate, her name engraved on the trophy, listed on the Lillie Robinson Humanitarian Award page on the office web, a Popi's Restaurants gift certificate, a bonus unileave day and names a themed casual day in her honor.
