**An appointment is required to process any hunting and fishing license/permit transactions at our Driver License Office located at 904 - 301 Blvd W, Bradenton. Visit taxcollector.com to schedule an appointment. (Our other office locations cannot sell hunting and fishing licenses/permits.)**
Effective August 1, 2009, Florida residents are required to hold a license to fish from shore (beaches, piers, etc). There is no cost for this annual license, but it must be obtained prior to fishing from shore. This license is not required if you already hold a license that allows for the take of saltwater fish (saltwater fishing license, gold sportsman license, etc).
If you are selling your catch (either wholesale or retail), you would need a saltwater products license; which is obtained through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Department of Environmental Protection. For more information, call (850) 487-3122 or visit www.MyFWC.com.
Is there a penalty for fishing without a fishing license?
There is a civil penalty for fishing without the proper license/permit. There is a fine, plus the cost of the applicable annual license/permit. Any person who willfully refuses to post a bond or accept and sign the issued citation is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree.
